The Best Baby Cribs of 2026
Expecting a new little one? Congratulations! Designing your baby's nursery is a joyful milestone, but finding a crib that's both beautiful and safe can feel overwhelming. With so many cribs on the market, it's no wonder many parents feel analysis paralysis around which crib is the best for their baby. And honestly, I get it. The crib is the anchor of the entire nursery - it's the piece the room gets designed around, the piece that shows up in every photo, and the piece your baby will spend the most time in.
Thankfully, choosing the right crib doesn't have to be overwhelming, as long as you know what you're actually looking for. As a nursery designer who looks at cribs all day long, I've narrowed my crib criteria down to five non-negotiables: GREENGUARD Gold Certification, convertibility, a price point that doesn't make you wince, excellent parent reviews, and a design that stands the test of time. When a crib checks all five of those boxes, it's a genuinely great choice - and the five picks below do exactly that.
What to Actually Look for in a Baby Crib in 2026
Before we get into the specific picks, let me walk you through the criteria I use when recommending cribs to clients. Because not all cribs are created equal, and the marketing language around "safe" baby furniture can get really confusing, really fast.
GREENGUARD Gold Certification
This is my absolute first filter. GREENGUARD Gold is a third-party certification that tests for over 360 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and chemical emissions. In plain terms: it means the crib has been rigorously tested to ensure it isn't off-gassing harmful chemicals into the air your baby is breathing for 12+ hours a day. Not all cribs have it, and in my opinion, it should be a baseline requirement. Bonus if it’s made of solid-wood construction to minimize the use of engineered woods (which use toxic glues).
Convertibility
A good convertible crib is a smart investment in a nursery. There are so many options that grow from a crib all the way through toddler bed and some continue on to a twin or full-size bed with the right conversion kit. When you factor in that most cribs run between $300 and $1,000, that's a piece of furniture that can easily carry a child from infancy through at least pre-school - which makes the per-year cost remarkably reasonable. Another reason I recommend convertible cribs is to make the transition from crib to toddler bed a bit smoother, they still have the familiarity of the crib they’ve known since birth but with the new freedom of a toddler guardrail rather than a full fourth crib wall.
Aesthetic Versatility
This one matters more than people expect! I always encourage clients to think about the crib as an investment piece that will transition to a toddler bed or be used for future children. A crib with a very specific or trendy design can be harder to re-use or re-style. A timeless, classic silhouette, whether that's clean and modern or elegantly traditional, will always have more longevity.
Excellent Parent Reviews
With so many options out there, it makes sense to choose one that is time-tested by other real parents. As most expectant moms can attest to, the lived experience and opinion of another mom can go far in helping us narrow down the best choice from amongst the sea of baby gear.
Reasonable Pricing
I’ll be honest, for many of my virtual design clients, affordability is not always the top of the criteria. Instead we often choose together to prioritize beauty and aesthetics (hello Restoration Hardware & Pottery Barn), but for this particular round-up I thought it would be helpful to show that good, quality cribs can be accessible at all pricepoints.
A Note on Safety Standards
It's worth knowing that CPSC and ASTM standards for cribs have continued to evolve, and 2025 brought updated requirements around mattress support systems and structural integrity for non-full-size cribs. All of the cribs I recommend below meet or exceed current safety standards, but I always encourage parents to do a quick check on the CPSC website if you have any specific concerns.
1. Namesake Liberty Crib
The Liberty is genuinely one of my favorite cribs on the market right now, and it comes up constantly in my Virtual Design projects. There's something about the silhouette, the vintage-inspired spindles with updated clean lines, that manages to feel both timeless and fresh at the same time. It photographs beautifully, which matters when you're spending months curating a nursery design.
From a practical standpoint, it converts from crib to toddler bed and comes with the toddler bed conversion rail included (a detail I always appreciate - conversion kits sold separately are an annoying gotcha). It's made from sustainably sourced New Zealand pine with a non-toxic finish, it's GREENGUARD Gold Certified, and it has earned over 300 five-star reviews, which for a higher-end crib at this price point is genuinely impressive. Babylist has also highlighted it as a nursery staple, and I tend to agree.
Why I Love It:
GREENGUARD Gold Certified
Vintage, timeless design updated to modern safety standards
Transitions from crib to toddler bed and daybed, with an included toddler bed conversion rail
Made from sustainably sourced New Zealand pine wood
Several unique finish options
Highlighted by Babylist as a must have nursery staple
300+ 5-star reviews
Best for: Traditional, transitional, vintage-inspired, woodland and cottage nursery designs. The Liberty works especially well paired with floral wallpaper, classic furniture, and warm wood accents.
Available finishes: Several unique options including warm wood tones and taupe - I always recommend pulling a finish that coordinates with your dresser and flooring.
2. Babyletto Yuzu Crib
If you want maximum flexibility from your crib investment, the Yuzu is hard to beat. The 8-in-1 convertibility is really innovative, it can function as a mini crib, full-size crib, toddler bed, daybed, and more, which means this piece can realistically serve your child through multiple stages without needing a replacement.
What I love about the Yuzu from a design standpoint is the dual-tone finish options. The two-tone wood look is modern and interesting without being trendy in a way that dates quickly. The silhouette is clean and contemporary, which makes it an excellent anchor for modern, Scandi-influenced, or gender-neutral nursery designs. Like all Babyletto cribs, it's made with sustainably sourced New Zealand pine, finished in non-toxic water-based paint, and manufactured in ethical facilities with strong environmental standards.
Why I Love It:
GREENGUARD Gold Certified
Clever 8-in-1 convertible design: includes mini crib, full crib, toddler bed, daybed, and more
Made with sustainably sourced New Zealand pine wood
Finished in a non-toxic, water-based paint
Manufactured in ethical facilities with a focus on environmental standards
Modern, clean design with interesting dual finish options
Best for: Modern, Scandi, minimalist, and boho nursery designs. Also a wonderful choice for parents who want the most long-term value out of a single crib purchase.
Designer tip: Order finish samples to compare prior to purchase, the honey color can look a bit yellow in some spaces and the washed natural can veer toward pink in other spaces.
3. DaVinci Jenny Lind Crib
The Jenny Lind is a classic for a reason. That distinctive spindle design has been around for a long time, and it continues to show up on my client mood boards consistently, particularly for traditional, cottage, and heirloom-inspired nurseries. It has that sweet, old-world quality that pairs beautifully with floral wallpaper, scallop details, and layered textiles.
Beyond aesthetics, what makes this an especially practical pick is the rolling wheels, which allow you to move the crib freely around the room. That sounds like a small thing, but for some rooms that are serving a dual purpose (like guest room nursery combo) it's a genuinely useful feature. It converts to a toddler bed (guardrail sold separately), is made from 100% solid sustainable New Zealand pine, and is GREENGUARD Gold Certified. At its price point, it's one of the most accessible options on this list without any compromise on safety.
Why I Love It:
Classic, timeless design
GREENGUARD Gold Certified
3-in-1 convertible - grows with your baby to toddlerhood (toddler bed guardrail sold separately)
Portable - rolling wheels allow you to move the crib around freely
Made of 100% solid sustainable New Zealand pine wood
Best for: Traditional, cottage, heirloom, blush-and-floral, and French-inspired nursery designs. Also a great budget-friendly entry point for families who want a high-quality, classic look.
Designer tip: The Jenny Lind looks stunning in white paired with warm wood furniture like an oak-toned dresser, the contrast between the crisp white spindles and warm wood creates a lot of visual depth in the nursery.
4. Babyletto Bento Crib
Storage in a nursery is often a challenge, and the Bento solves it in a discreet and clever way. The integrated storage drawer built into the base of the crib is designed specifically to hold extra crib sheets, mattress pads, and those small items that always seem to have nowhere to go. In a small nursery especially, that kind of built-in functionality is a sanity-saver.
The design is clean and simple, it's not a statement-making crib in the way that the Liberty or the Jenny Lind are, but that's actually part of its appeal. It works seamlessly with almost any nursery aesthetic, which makes it an excellent choice for clients who are still figuring out their design direction or who want the flexibility to completely reimagine the space for a second child. It converts to a toddler bed with the included conversion rail, is GREENGUARD Gold Certified, and is made with sustainably sourced solid New Zealand pine.
Why I Love It:
GREENGUARD Gold Certified
Integral storage for extra crib sheets & mattress pads
Transitions from crib to toddler bed and daybed, with an included toddler bed conversion rail
Simple, clean design works well with many styles
Made with sustainably sourced solid New Zealand pine wood, one of the most renewable woods available.
Best for: Small nurseries, neutral and minimalist nursery designs, parents who want flexibility to change the design later. An excellent choice if storage is a priority.
Designer tip: Because the Bento is so visually simple, it lets your textiles and art do the heavy lifting in the room, it's the crib I often recommend when a client has a really bold wallpaper or a statement rug they want to anchor the space.
5. Graco Olivia Crib
Not every family has a $1200+ crib budget, and the Olivia is the pick I feel good about recommending when affordability is a genuine priority. What's impressive about this crib is that it manages to hit all the important marks: GREENGUARD Gold Certified, 3-in-1 convertible, consistently excellent reviews, at a price point that makes the nursery budget go significantly further.
The design is versatile enough to work in multiple nursery styles, which is exactly what you want from a more budget-conscious pick. It doesn't have the same artisan-quality details as some of the pricier options above (I’m looking at you, exposed screw heads and brackets), but for parents who want to invest more of their budget in a high-quality dresser, glider, or custom window treatments, the Olivia lets you do that without sacrificing safety or function.
Why I Love It:
GREENGUARD Gold Certified
Versatile design aesthetic
3-in-1 convertible - grows with your baby to toddlerhood (toddler bed gaurdrail sold separately)
Incredibly affordable
Consistently great reviews
Best for: Budget-conscious families, parents expecting multiple children who want a practical and versatile option, second nurseries where the budget is tighter.
Designer tip: With it’s arched sides, clean lines and neutral wood tones, this crib fits in perfectly if you have a boho, Scandi, modern or contemporary style. The aesthetic is quite versatile and would work well in most spaces.
Frequently Asked Questions About Baby Cribs
When should I set up the crib? I generally recommend having the crib assembled and in place at least a month before your due date - both so you can be ready for a baby who may decide to come early, and so the room has time to air out after any manufacturing off-gassing. If you've chosen a GREENGUARD Gold Certified crib, that concern is significantly reduced, but it's still good practice.
What size mattress does a standard crib take? Standard full-size cribs take a standard crib mattress, which is approximately 27" x 51". Always check the specific measurements for your crib and mattress - a mattress should fit snugly with no more than two finger-widths of space between the mattress and any side of the crib.
Do I need a toddler bed rail? Most convertible cribs require you to purchase the toddler bed conversion kit separately, though a few (like the Liberty and the Bento) include it. This is a detail worth checking before purchase, it can add additional cost to your total investment.
What mattress should I pair with my crib? Mattress selection is its own rabbit hole, but the short version is: look for a firm, flat mattress with GREENGUARD Gold or similar certification. I’m personally passionate about using the cleanest mattress you can get, since babies sleep/breathe within inches of it for 14+ hours a day. My favorite, what I used with my own babies, is Naturepedic brand.
Can I use a vintage or secondhand crib? I usually recommend against secondhand cribs. Safety standards have changed significantly over the years, and older cribs, even beautiful ones, may not meet current requirements around slat spacing, drop-side mechanisms, paint/stain finish and mattress support. A new crib at any of the price points on this list is always the safer choice.
Final Thoughts
Choosing a crib is one of those decisions that feels more overwhelming than it needs to be. When you strip it back to what actually matters, safety certification, material quality, convertibility, budget alignment and a design you love, the right option becomes much clearer. Every crib on this list has been chosen because it genuinely checks all five boxes, and because I would feel confident recommending it to a client, a friend, or a family member.
