The Cora

The goal for this nursery was to create a space that felt timeless and softly feminine, with a French-inspired sensibility that would mature naturally as the baby grows. I wanted the room to feel serene and considered, but not overly styled or locked into a single stage of childhood. It was important that the foundation felt enduring, so small shifts over time could allow the room to evolve without needing a full redesign. Click through the images above to see how this nursery went from initial concept to final rendering.

The design direction is floral and feminine, layered with blush and beige tones, warm wood finishes, and subtle, timeworn details to add a sense of historic charm. The floral wallpaper became the natural starting point for the room, I love how it brings in movement and visual interest without overwhelming the space - it immediately sets a tone that feels soft, welcoming, and lived-in rather than styled for a moment.

Once the wallpaper was established, the rest of the layout began to fall into place. Tucking the crib under the slope of the eaves created such a cozy moment while making the most of an awkward ceiling line. The warm wood crib adds contrast against the lighter palette and introduces a sense of character that keeps the space from feeling overly delicate or one-dimensional. Above the crib, layered artwork was chosen to work with the slope of the ceiling, drawing the eye upward and letting the architecture feel like an asset rather than a challenge.

Fabrics played an important role in softening the room and making it feel complete. Floor-length drapery in the perfect mid-tone, desaturated mauvey-blush pink adds warmth and elegance, while a large neutral rug anchors the furniture and keeps the layout feeling cohesive. The glider and skirted ottoman were selected with comfort as the priority, because this is a room meant to be used, then finished with subtle pattern so they contribute to the overall design without competing for attention.

Storage was approached thoughtfully, blending concealed pieces (like the gorgeous antique dresser I sourced on Chairish) with a few decorative elements so the room stays practical but visually calm. From a function and safety standpoint, furniture spacing was kept generous, pathways were left open, and lighting was layered with warm, diffused sources to support nighttime routines. Artwork and accessories were selected with careful attention to scale and placement, so everything feels balanced, meaningful and appropriate for the space.

In the end, this nursery is less about any single statement and more about how all the pieces work together. It’s a room that feels soft, personal, and intentionally designed to support everyday moments, now and in the years to come.
