This nursery leans into a timeless, tailored look, layering classic patterns, warm wood tones, and subtle heritage details to create a space that feels calm and lasting. The room sits within a traditional East Coast home, so it was important that the design felt connected to the architecture and character of the house while still bringing the softness needed for a baby’s space. Rather than leaning into a theme, the design introduces subtle personal references that add personality while allowing the room to grow naturally over time.

The wallpaper became the natural starting point for the design. A small-scale tailored stripe adds rhythm and structure to the walls and wraps the room in warmth. Stripes are one of my favorite choices for nurseries because they feel classic and timeless, giving the space visual interest without overwhelming it.

Once the foundation was established, the rest of the room began to take shape. The crib anchors the main wall and allows the artwork above to create a focal point that feels meaningful. A nautical flag was a nod to dad’s love of sailing, bringing a personal detail into the room without turning it into a theme. Surrounding artwork layers in additional character, creating the feeling of a collection that has grown naturally over time.

Importantly, furniture and rug choices were made with sustainability, longevity and health in mind (natural materials, organic certifications, etc.), not just style. The antique dresser sourced from Chairish brings beautiful depth and history into the space, grounding the room with rich wood tones and craftsmanship that can’t easily be replicated in new pieces. Pairing that antique with the more contemporary (and Greenguard Gold certified) crib keeps the room feeling balanced and layered. Soft furnishings add another level of comfort, with patterned drapery bringing movement to the window wall while the large wool rug anchors the layout and ties the palette together.

Everyday function was considered just as carefully as the aesthetics. The glider creates a comfortable place for quiet routines, while woven baskets provide storage that blends seamlessly into the room. Lighting was layered intentionally so the nursery can shift easily from bright daytime moments to softer evening routines, creating a space that feels calm, practical, and welcoming throughout the day.
